Ernest Brooks a fost primul fotograf oficial al Angliei ce a fost trimis în 1916 pe frontul de vest. Fost fotograf Daily Mirror, a primit rangul de onoare de sublocotenent, misiunea lui fiind să fotografieze cât mai detaliat războiul şi să facă un număr cât mai mare de fotografii ce urmau a fi folosite pentru propagandă.

Având un grad mare de libertate şi fiind un fotograf experimentat, Brooks s-a folosit de mediul în care era şi de oportunitate pentru a face şi fotografii artistice.

Până în 1918 a realizat circa 4400 de imagini, mai mult de 10% din totalul fotografiilor oficiale din primul război mondial.

Următoarea selecţie aparţine Bibliotecii Naţionale a Scoţiei şi ilustrază 28 de fotografii ale artistului. Fiecare fotografie are propria-i poveste şi vă recomand să o citiţi.
