A 31 ediţie a raliului Dakar are loc în America de Sud între 1 şi 16 ianuarie. Anul acesta cursa are startul s-a dat din Buenos Aires, iar întreaga cursă a fost împărţită în 14 etape. Este al doilea an consecutiv când această cursă se tine în America de Sud şi nu pe tradiţionalul traseu african. La start s-au numărat 362 de echipe, 174 de motociclete, 134 maţini de curse şi 52 de camioane.
